This week in Destiny:
After the Monument of Triumph update, seasonal events such as Solstice, Festival of the Lost, The Dawning and Guardian Games no longer run in game.
We have taken it upon ourselves to carry on the legacy of these events here within the Community Hub. We actually previously did this with Solstice.
This time, we've had a bit more time to prepare. We'd like to introduce you all to our take on Destiny's Halloween event: Festival of the Lost.
Please note, this is not an official Destiny update, this is purely a fan project and no rewards are provided in-game. All rewards shown are earnable for your Community Hub profile.
Below, we will cover some of the Festival of the Lost features coming to the Community Hub.
Similar to the Black Armory: Arms Week we recently held, we will be running a leaderboard event. This time, instead of asking players to get as many kills as possible with Black Armory weapons, we'll be asking players to collect as much candy as possible.
Candy is earned through the following methods:
Your candy collection will be tracked on our website and you can compete against other players to see who collects the most candy throughout Festival of the Lost.
There will be an event pass which is levelled up by collecting candy, with 35 ranks in total. Each rank grants rewards, such as emblems, banners, badges, and a brand new event currency. Event tokens. More on those soon.
We will also have candy collection leaderboard rankings with rewards for placement. Here are the bonus rewards players will receive for placing well:
| Placement | Reward |
|---|---|
| Top 25 | Diamond Festival of the Lost badge |
| Top 100 | Gold Festival of the Lost badge |
| Top 250 | Silver Festival of the Lost badge |
| Top 1000 | Bronze Festival of the Lost badge |
| All participants | Festival of the Lost badge |
This is our brand new page designed around Bungie's in-game Event Hub.
Here, you can track your current Community Hub missions, currencies and event rank. Please see the below preview image:
Please note, values, rewards and missions are not final and will be changed before the event.
Now, we will break down everything you can see in the image.
On the righthand side, you can see missions. You have daily missions (soon to be renamed to repeatable missions) and event missions.
Repeatable missions automatically refresh once completed and these are modelled around the orders system from Destiny. Each time you complete a mission you will have an increasing chance for a higher rarity mission which grants improved rewards.
Event missions are a static set of missions which grant a large amount of rewards. If you played Solstice, it is the Festival of the Lost version of "Trials of Light". We will talk more about these later.
Just above the mission tiles, you can view your inventory. Here you can see your collectible and spendable currencies.
If you don't like one of the objectives you've been given in your repeatable missions, worry not! You can reroll missions using reroll chips. Each reroll costs 1 reroll chip and you can hold a maximum of 3 reroll chips.
Each time you complete a mission, you will be granted an additional reroll chip, up to the cap of 3.
For completing missions and ranking up your event pass, you'll be granted a new currency, event tokens.
The amount you get varies depending on the rarity of the mission, and they can be exchanged in the event store.
Once you've collected event tokens, you can spend them on cosmetics, reroll chips and additional candy here.
Below is an example of the interface. Rewards here are examples and will not reflect the final build.
We will be offering a collection of Festival of the Lost themed emblems and banners for your Community Hub profile. Below we will preview just a few of the ones we've prepared so far. We will preview even more in next week's Community TWID.
It's important to note, we decided to add the candy exchange to the event shop to allow players who earn every emblem and banner an additional route to earning candy to place higher on the leaderboard.
Much like with Solstice, we will be running a set of 4 missions for players to complete, which allows them to earn an exclusive emblem, banner and discord role.
These can be found under the Event Missions section of the Event Hub.
Each of the event challenges will also provide a large amount of candy and event tokens.
For Festival of the Lost, we will be asking players to complete the following objectives:
Complete Solo Ops: Typhon Imperator using only Festival of the Lost weapons.
Complete Fireteam Ops: Scarlet Keep using only Festival of the Lost weapons.
Complete Pinnacle Ops: Kell's Fall using only Festival of the Lost weapons.
Complete Pit of Heresy solo using only Festival of the Lost weapons.
For completing all 4 challenges, you will earn the Soulkeeper role, emblem and banner.
On top of everything else, anyone who supports us through Patreon and has their Patreon linked to their Community Hub account, will receive the following emblem for their Community Hub account permanently:
You'll even get a permanent Haunted Supporter badge for your profile!
Server costs aren't free, and your support on Patreon helps us keep the lights on. We're very thankful for any and all donations. This is just the first step we're taking to provide our supporters with more rewards going forward. We're excited to reveal more supporter rewards soon.
Alongside all of the events we're running using our brand new Event Hub, we will also be running a pumpkin carving competition and we will be featuring Festival of the Lost themed fashion in the Community TWIDs. We will have more info on these next week.
Alongside Festival of the Lost, we're looking at redesigning some pages of our website. The main one being the director.
Below is the updated look, which will be a bit easier for users to navigate:
The main way this will help is with viewing objectives within Challenge Packs. Please see the below example:
We're excited to share more in-depth details about the new look and new systems at a later date in a dev insights article, so please stay tuned!
Earlier in the week, we launched our second wave of Challenge Packs!
You can read all about them in the below articles:
Here's the rundown. Challenge Packs are a series of challenges for activities which can be found under the Director tab on the D2 Community Hub website. By completing challenges, you can earn special emblems for your Community Hub account.
In the latest wave we released Challenge Packs for the following activities:
You can find these Challenge Packs and start completing them on the Director page of the Community Hub!
Dave submitted this a few weeks ago and we really wanted to feature it. We hope he's happy with the recent announcement with Destiny's future!
